FREEDOM OF SPEECH 2020
May 2020
Freedom of Speech 2020 is a remake of Norman Rockwellā€™s famous 1943 painting,Ā Freedom of Speech. In this work, Zelley reframes the idea of freedom as the ability to break from oneā€™s own political affiliation.Ā The work depicts a crowded gathering of Trump supports during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. As the mask-less crowd wears red ā€œMake America Great Againā€ hats and holds anti-lockdown posters, one man has removed his hat and stands confidently with a medical mask and material on the deadly virus.
